Measured, not guessed

Training harder isn’t always the answer. A weaker side, a strength gap or a stiff mid-back can hold you back without you knowing. Our Performance Baseline measures how your body is working for your sport, so you and your coach know exactly what to work on.

What we test

  • Power and jumping: how much force you produce and how quickly, on VALD ForceDecks force plates
  • Left and right differences: how evenly you share the load between your legs, and between your arms
  • Maximum strength: an isometric pull, plus hip, knee and shoulder strength with a handheld dynamometer
  • Reactive strength: how well you absorb landings and spring back off the ground
  • Balance: single-leg control on each side
  • Body composition: muscle in each arm and leg, body fat and hydration on a Tanita analyser
  • Heart and lungs: resting ECG, heart rate variability and lung function, as a screening baseline

Built around your sport

Everyone has the same core tests, so results compare over time. Then we add the tests that matter for your sport.

  1. Endurance

Running, cycling, swimming and triathlon. Single-leg control and springiness for running, leg strength and riding position for cycling, shoulder balance and upper-body power for swimming.

  2. Mountain biking

Upper-body strength for the bike, grip endurance, landing control and back mobility.

  3. Padel and tennis

The one-sidedness the sport builds, side-to-side movement, rotation, and strength around the shoulder and elbow.

Prices

  • Performance Baseline, £175: core tests plus your sport, about 60–75 minutes, with a same-day report and your 2–3 priorities
  • Performance Retest, £95: the key tests again, about 40 minutes, to see what has changed
  • Performance Programme, £395: the Baseline, a goal-setting session, an 8-week training focus and your retest

Questions about performance testing

Do I need to be an elite athlete?

No. It suits anyone who trains for a sport and wants to know what to work on, from a first triathlon to club competition. The tests and the report are explained in plain language.

Is it a medical check?

No. It is a performance and fitness baseline, not a medical diagnosis. The ECG and heart rate measures are a resting screening baseline, not clearance to exercise. If anything needs looking at, we will tell you and explain the next step.

How long does it take?

About 60 to 75 minutes for the Performance Baseline, with your report on the day. A retest takes about 40 minutes.

How often should I retest?

Every 8 to 12 weeks, on the same equipment and at a similar time of day, so you can see what has changed.

Can you share results with my coach?

Yes. With your permission, we are happy to share your results with your coach or club, so everyone is working towards the same goal.

What if I’m injured?

If you’re coming back from an injury, our return to sport testing and rehab is the better place to start.
