Knee replacement
Getting your knee bending and straightening, building up thigh strength and getting back to walking, stairs and everyday life.
Surgery is only the start. The work you do in the weeks and months afterwards makes a big difference to how well you recover. We guide you through it, step by step.

After an operation, your muscles weaken quickly and joints can stiffen. A rehabilitation plan that follows your surgeon’s advice helps you regain movement, rebuild strength and get back to the things you want to do.
We follow the instructions and timescales your surgeon or hospital team give you, and get in touch with them if anything doesn’t seem to be going to plan.
Your plan is built around your operation, your fitness before surgery and your goals, whether that’s walking the dog, gardening or getting back to sport.
We measure your movement, strength and balance as you go, comparing your operated side with the other side. Where it helps we use our force plates. See Measured, not guessed.
We also help with rehab after many other operations, so call us if yours isn’t listed.

Usually as soon as your hospital team says you can, often within the first couple of weeks. Some people also see us before surgery, because being stronger going in can make the early weeks easier.

It depends on the operation. Many people are doing most everyday things within about three months of a hip or knee replacement, while a return to sport after an ACL reconstruction usually takes nine months or more. We’ll give you an honest idea for your situation.
